ABOUT DUNKIN
When we pulled Combating — now lovingly known as Dunkin — off the track, we thought he’d be a quick turnaround. A handsome Thoroughbred with a strong pedigree, he was meant to be a project for our training and sales program. But Dunkin had other plans.
Almost immediately, we realized he wasn’t just another off-the-track Thoroughbred. Beneath his quiet eyes was a horse in pain — crippled with arthritis, mechanical hind end issues, poor hoof quality, and in need of a high-quality diet to help this big guy gain weight and muscling. Dunkin didn’t need a tune-up. He needed a second chance at life.
What started as a business decision quickly became something deeper. As we worked to slowly bring him back to comfort, we found that Dunkin wasn’t just a project. He was a purpose. We began rehabilitating him not with a resale goal in mind, but with compassion, time, and care. Our goal was giving him the space to be a horse again — to graze, to rest, to be loved.
And that’s how FETRP was born.
Dunkin reminded us that not every racehorse gets a fair ending, and not every Thoroughbred is ready to start over alone. His journey became the foundation of our mission: Rehab. Retrain. Rehome.
Today, Dunkin is our FETRP Ambassador, our reminder of why we do this work, and our living proof that healing is possible — when someone finally listens.

My family has been canning, cooking, and pickling together since the 1930s.
My own pickling journey started with tiresome trips to the store only to settle for subpar banana peppers. Unsatisfied with available options, I decided to experiment and develop the perfect pepper and dill recipe. While putting my own touch on my great aunts recipe for bread and butters, I had a happy accident that lead to our famous sweet onion relish!
A single question became common among friends, family, and co-workers when trying my pickles, peppers, and onions: “When are you going to start selling these?”
As a result, I am now happy to be able to share the fruits of many laborious nights between my mother and myself (thanks Mom!) with other pickle lovers. It’s truly a labor of love and watching the reaction to someone take their first bite makes all the hard work worth it.
We are honored that our passion has led us to have the opportunity to make a positive impact with organizations like FETRP.
Thank you all so much,
Peter Englerth
