How to Adopt a FETRP Horse

The application inquires about the adopters experience, plans for stabling, and require veterinarian and personal references.

There is no fee to apply.​​​

Available horses are listed on our website. Approved adopters can make an appointment to view the horses or commit sight unseen based on website information.​​​​​​​

Thoroughbred adoption contracts include a life-time no slaughter/auction agreement. If the horse is rehomed, the new owner must sign this agreement and file with FETRP.

Adoption fees range from waived to $3,500 depending on each horse's age and physical limitations.​​​

Once a commitment is made the adopter has seven days to pick up or transport the horse. A daily rate is charged for board beyond this grace period.

A health certificate is required by law for horses that are shipping with a commercial hauler and would be crossing state lines. Health certificates typically cost $30-$50.​​

This helps FETRP monitor the horse’s condition and progress as well as post success stories and update our donor's on how the horses transition into their new homes.​​
