Donate a Horse

Donations to FETRP are tax-deductible to the extent of the law. Equine donors receive a letter of acknowledgement stating the horse was donated to a 501(c)(3) public charity. A CPA should be consulted for the value of the donation.

Horse Requirements

FETRP accepts mares and geldings 2 years or older. All horses must have recently been racing or in race training. Stallions need to be castrated and given a few weeks healing time before arrival.

Horses must have:

  • Proof of a current negative Coggins test

  • Current Health Certificate

  • Be entered upon transfer as "Sold as Retired from Racing"

A profile of the horse’s disposition, injuries (old and new), limitations, habits, and any joint injections or illnesses in the previous three months should accompany each individual along with the name, address, and phone number of both the owner and the trainer.

We request the original registration papers so your horse has the ability to be registered with several upper level horse showing organizations, such as the United States Dressage Federation.  Papers are permanently stamped with "Retired From Racing" as well as FETRP’s logo and contact information should your horse ever need a home in the future – people will hold on to and pass on registration papers 100% more than a piece of paper with our information or an adoption contract.

Horses coming to FETRP need to be sound for riding and have an agreeable temperament. Due to FETRP relying primarily on donations for funding, there is often a waitlist for donating injured horses into the program. We can only take in a limited amount of injured horses unless the donor is willing to cover the board of their donated horse until it’s rehabilitated.

Please do not send horses with neurological symptoms, joint infections, or acute degenerative joint disease as these individuals face a poor quality of life and often must be euthanized.

Horse Donation Form

Please allow a few days for us to contact you. At that time, you will be notified if the horse has been accepted into the program and to what facility it will go. To speed up the process, please send copies of Coggins, health records and x-rays or ultrasounds (especially if the horse is injured) along with the application.

* Print and send Completed PDF application to Autumn.FETRP@gmail.com
